Back in USA

Hello loyal follower(s)

June 27, 2011 our ferry arrived at Port Angelus, (located at northern tip of the Olympic Peninsula) about noon.  We drove down the western side of the peninsula to Aberdeen, Washington and took "pot luck" for a motel, and lucked out.

This was our "pot luck" choice: American's Best Value Inn.  It was old, probably forty years old, with large, comfortable rooms.

Chef Cyndy prepared the meal for the night.

Mr Nut, the sous chef enjoyed the results.

June 28-29, 2011.  We chose such a nice place with an ocean view, we stayed two days. The first evening was pleasant, very little wind and what a break, no rain or drizzle.

Pelican Shores:  A neat place in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Mr Nuts dear wife Cyndy

Mr Nut doing what he does best; sitting.

We always ask someone to take our picture, and tell them we need it to send back to our children to show them we are still active.

Again the chief chef was at work again with dinner.  It was left overs from last evening.  The second evening the sous chef (Mr Nut) sprung into action and grilled a pork loin on the grill provided by the Inn.

Yup! still doing it.   Eating is a great sport.  Notice the ocean in the background, what a great room.

June 30, 2011, found us in Garberville, California, where again we had a good motel in this small town.

The Humbolt Redwood Inn, was clean and our room consisted of two adjoining  rooms each with a queen size bed.

Find a place to eat was another matter.

This was our "restaurant", it was the local watering hole, community gathering spot.  Quaint, rather hippie like clientele in  a run down building.  There was a violinist playing for tips.

Here were a couple of shots of the inside of the place.  Notice menu in chalk on the wall.

Another shot of the inside.

And finally, "last but least" the violin player upstairs overlooking the cafe tables.   He is hard to see in this picture and was also hard to listen to.

July 1, 2011, it will be off to Susan and Dave's ocean vacation house in Gualala, California about 120 miles from Garborville, and about 100 miles north of San Francisco.

Victoria BC ( Bring ( a lot of) Cash)

June 25-26, 2011
Hello loyal follower(s)
Saturday and Sunday we did Victoria BC (BC = Bring (lots of ) Cash). There was what was called the "Harmonizing Tax" in BC which was 14.25% on almost everything.
Mr Nut’s memory of the  city from 1998 was slightly tainted, It seemed more British back then.  The immediate area around the harbor was still neat, but get away from the harbor area and it was just another city.

Here are a few scenes from near the harbor.

Now the place where we stayed was really unique.
Cyndy in front of the eighteen room B&B, which was built in 1913 as a rooming house.

This was a panel of buttons for the eighteen rooms.  They still work but are not used.

This common lounge was available for our use.

A different shot of the same lounge, the green did not show up well in this picture.

The sight of the creation of Mr Nut’s blogs for this area.

The breakfast area and the next two pictures were of some pictures on the wall painted by the owner’s daughter.

Now for the basics of life, eating.  Again we tried local eating spots.

This hole in the wall Lebanese restaurant was the first BAD result of the trip.  We both had a Shawarma wrap.  It was two Mylanta meal.

The pink bicycle was another hole in the wall place, with one exception there were many people standing on the sidewalk waiting to get in Friday night that Mr Nut decided not to wait to get in.  BIG MISTAKE, that was when we went to the Lebanese place. But we did go back to the The pink bicycle on Saturday evening (early).  The menu was quite unique, and the food at least five star.

Cyndy  leaving stuffed after the meal, as  you can  see it was a small place, probably seating less than forty people.  Don’t be fooled by the mirrored wall.

Sunday  June 26, 2011 The day was sunny and comfortable (low 70s) and again we walked to the tourist area--- the harbor.

Cyndy read about this place, Joe’s Seafood Bar where we had fish and chips.

Mr Nut enjoyed the atmosphere, outside, with a view of the harbor.

Cyndy just had to put money in the “living Statue’s” money can, and received a hug.

Cyndy just had to feed the money can for this young musician, but without a hug.

We came upon  a catholic parade as we walked back to our B&B

We ended our canadian experience with a meal at this restaurant- The Sticky Wicket.

Monday June 27 we leave Canada by ferry to Port Angeles, Washington.

The Far corners of Vancouver Island

Hello loyal follower(s)

June 21, we stayed at a very nice B&B at Courtney which was  half way up the island in the east side.

Continuing our goal to eat at local restaurants we ate at Ricky's. Mr Nut had barbecued beef ribs that were excellent.

June  22 we on our way "up island".

At Fort Campbell, we stopped at a fishing pier, because Cyndy loves to fish. You can rent a fishing pole here.

Look at the neat sky, it was a great day.
Notice all the fishing poles waiting to be rented.

Not knowing what to expect at Telegraph Cove we drove to a small village nearby and tried our luck with lunch at this place.  The food was good, but not outstanding.

This was Telegraph Cove.  It got it's name because in 1913 a telegraph relay station was established there.
our "cottage" was the end one (right end)  in the red building.  Cyndy booked this place because they offered whale watching  (at over $100 a pop). They would have to pay Mr Nut to get him to sit in the cold in a boat just to maybe see a whale from a long distance).  Cyndy also passed on this great opportunity since we watched the whales from a boat in the St Lawrence See way about 1998.

Mr Nut in action, hauling our stuff to the "cottage".

This place started out as a salmon fishery where salmon was caught and shipped to China.  They needed wooden boxes for shipping the salmon, so they started  a lumber company.

Because the cove has steep side hills down to the water, the buildings were built on pilings.

Has Mr Nut mentioned that BC doesn't stand for British Columbia, it stands for Bring Cash
 (lots of it).

June 23, 2011 brought us to the western side of the island about half way up the island to a small village at the end of the road called Ucelet.

On the way we saw a black bear walking on top of the cement guard rail, but could not stop to get a picture. because the road was too narrow.

This was basic minimal.

On the way  to Victoria we stopped at the Giant Cedar Grove.

Naturally Mr Nut took some time to rest, which he does so well.

This was certainly a "tourist trap", but it really was a neat store. It was called Goats On The Roof, and there were.
This was just a shot of the roof.

After the Goats On The Roof stop it was time for lunch.  Special bread from the store, cheese and a Coke.

The evening of the 24th was spent in an actual rooming house.  I mean it was built to be a rooming house in 1913, and is now a B&B

DRIVE AND FERRY TO VANCOUVER ISLAND

June 20-21, 2011
DRIVE AND FERRY TO VANCOUVER ISLAND
Hello loyal follower(s),
Last night (the 19th) we stayed at a very first class B&B. In Pemberton.  I was anxious  to start making bread again after seeing the neat kitchen in the B&B.

Actually Cyndy got to cook dinner in that kitchen.

This was the front of the house.  If you have ever been to Austria you would have seen may houses like this one.  The husband at the B&B designed it, and he was from Austria.  The door to our room was at the left in the picture.

The view from the door of our B&B

We stopped at two waterfalls on the way to Vancouver Island:

This was the first one, and Mr Nut is not good at names.

This was falls number two according to Mr Nut.

This was where the Winter Olympics hosted by Vancouver during 2010, held the skiing events. Whistler BC. (BC really stands for Bring Cash)

Some street scenes in the skiing village (no cars allowed in the center of the village).  The village was designed to reflect an european small town feel.

We took a gondola ride to the top of one of the mountains overlooking Whistler. Then took a second gondola from one mountain top to the mountain next to the first mountain.

Of course we had to have our picture taken an the top of the first mountain.

Then it was time for lunch. At Kamloops, where we ate a The Smorgasbord cafe we also purchased some weird whole wheat that came in a square package and was designed to be on a store shelf for a long time.  Also we purchased some great cheese.  Those two items were to be our lunch.  The Bread was so bad (not spoiled), bad by design, we discarded it immediately.  Mr Nut shows his distaste for the bread (shown in the picture).

Cyndy captured this picture of Mr Nut at the height of his excitement of being high in the air in a gondola.

Take a look at the gondola, besides being red it has a neat design.

While waiting to take the ferry to Vancouver Island Mr Nut spotted this warning sign obviously aimed at the owners of male dogs.  The sign says for fire use only.

Mr Nut could not pass up pizza for a buck.

Every trip with Cyndy has to include at least one picture of her on a boat.  This is the first one from the ferry.

Our first night on the island was spent in a pleasant B&B in Courtney about 100 miles north of Victoria.
