Hello loyal follower(s),

I'm back, sort of, had surgery Monday March 12  hospital wanted to kick me out March 14th because insurance would not cover any more days in the hospital.  Never mind that I could not get out of bed.  A place was found for me at Saint Francis Hospital.

I was on my way to Saint Francis Hospital via an ambulance service ( my first ambulance ride)

Cyndy provided me with the information of where I was and where I going, I had no idea at the time.
Because of my lack of control is was "Depends" dependent at this point.

They did not use the sirens, so I guess things were not critical, although the sirens would have been a nice touch.

Physically I was at the new location, mentally, who knows. (Wednesday, March 14th)

By Thursday I was off of Depends and recovering fast.  There were many therapists helping me, but Tim shown at the right was by far my favorite.  Her I was "biking".

We had a great room;  that was Cyndy's cot in the background. The wheelchair was just a good place to sit.

A night view  from our window.

My loyal wife working puzzles to fill the time.

With Cyndy in the room the staff (after a while ) didn't get so upset when I got up to go to the bathroom without calling them for help.  Alarms went off when I tried to get out of bed.

By Saturday I was becoming a problem for the staff.  You had to always use a walker.  The head staff person as always on my case.  Even though I had no intention of using the damn think I had to keep it with me. As I said I recovered fast.

By Monday March 19, I was walking outside WITHOUT the walker but with Tim and Cyndy.   My stamina and endurance was still very low but by Thursday the day of my discharge everything was passable.

This was a tough blog because I can't remember simple words, and thank goodness for spell check.

À bientôt,
Mr Nut

Mr Nut and the UCSF hospital

How to Navigate around in Mr Nut’s blogs:  At the left of the tool bar directly above the blog is an input box.  Type in as much of  the title as you remember and then click return.

Hello loyal follower(s),

Monday the fifth we went into San Francisco to the UCSF hospital for a pre-surgery exam and a new MRI.

We took the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) plus the Metro streetcar system.  What a great system. The black areas on the floor are where the doors of the train opened.  When I feel better we would love to just roam around downtown San francisco.

This was the UCSF hospital, and I can hardly wait.  The surgery date was March 21 UNTIL WE RECEIVED  A TELEPHONE TUESDAY MARCH 6.
THEY MOVED MY SURGERY UP TO MARCH 12 THEREFORE MY WAIT IS NOW LESS THAN 0NE WEEK.

I still use my computer while standing and only when the pain is minimal.
With the good news I decided to make some oatmeal bread to kill time. (see blog of Nov 24, 2011for recipe) The picture was of the bread dough after the 18 hours of fermentation.

The dough was divided into two loaves, they don't look the same size but they were.

The bread turned out OK even though I forgot to cover the bread with aluminum foil after ten minutes of baking.

The pain has returned so  it is time to quit for the day

À bientôt,

Revisit of recipe: Mr Nut's Utah Loaf Bread

How to Navigate around in Mr Nut’s blogs:  At the left of the tool bar directly above the blog is an input box.  Type in as much of  the title as you remember and then click return.

Hello loyal follower(s),
Well I'm back at working on my computer while standing.  The pain even with two kinds of pain pills doesn't make it comfortable to work sitting down.
There are several topics I would like to write a blog about: One is the art of Quilt making and another about a a Spicy Spaghetti recipe I did a few days ago but that will have to wait for better days, health-wise.

Yesterday, I made Mr Nut's Utah Loaf bread and consequently some changes and improvements were made. First. I cut down the amount or molasses  from 3/8 cup to 1/8 cup.  Then I thought greasing pans is so 1950-ish, therefore I used Parchment paper instead, keeping in mind it doesn't have to fit perfectly.  One correction was Smart Balance instead of the shoe New Balance plus a few other composition errors.  As usual I thank the computer Gods for spell check.

Here were the resulting loaves.

The crumb was good but with too much molasses.

The recipe in the blog for December 3, 2011 was updated.

À bientôt,
Mr Nut
